"How was it made and attached?
Calvin at Radford Welding designed the bumper and also beefed up the structure around the generator and attached the bumper to that. In this configuration, it can not be used to pull the motorhome as the latches to hold the generator in are not heavy enough for that. It is designed to protect us if we hit something.
What is it made from and what did it cost?
It is 2x4 box steel tubing and flat stock and is powder coated. Aluminum would have cost considerably more and chrome plating also a lot more. It weighs about 150#. The cost was $1,800 complete with installation.
The bumper slides out with the generator for access. We have not gone on a trip with it yet but in the design stages Calvin took into account bouncing up and down and beefed up things. We'll find out how well it works over time.
Calvin also added a 2" receiver to the lower section and made up a 3 pole flagpole holder to use when parked. (Not pictured) We can also use the receiver to hold bikes if we chose although I'll wait on that to see how it works out. The added weight of the bikes is my concern. Currently, I carry them on a bike rake on the back of our Toad.
I can highly recommend Calvin at Radford Welding for any welding fabrication work you might need if you're in the SW Virginia area."
